NealFanPage Put to Sleep…

You might be wondering why you are here at LanceWillett.com when you tried to go to NealFanPage.com.

I decided that one less blog would be good for me, plus there just wasn’t enough content to put up on just Neal and his work (great as it is!).

So, all my old posts (and the one that Aaron did) are here on this site now, under the category “sci-fi”. This will allow me to still include my thoughts on Neal from time to time and link to interesting web content that deals with his work.

That said, make sure to change any links or bookmarks accordingly.

Thanks (and goodbye for now to NealFanPage blog).

New Design

Today I am kicking off a new look for LanceWillett.com! Two reasons: [1] simplify, and [2] use my own design.

The first design this site had wasn’t mine…although I thought it was cool nonetheless. It was a Kubrick takeoff, in case you were curious. I got it as a “theme” from the Textpattern Resources site. Since I am a web designer I thought it would be fairly important to design my own site!

This new design is intended to tide me over until I can come up with something cool. For now I am aiming at “simple”, “lightweight”, and “readable”.

Let me know what you think…

Here’s to New Blogs

LanceWillett.com is now added to my blog collection. Why, you ask?

I decided to go ahead and secure my “ego domain.” I know there are only two other Lance Willett’s out there (that I know of). But hey, you never know. Someone might snag it.

One Lance Willett that I am always fighting with in Google is a symphony conductor executive director in Iowa (or somewhere in the Midwest). Another that I’ve found before, accidentally of course, is a body builder and has lots of near-nude pictures online.

So, needless to say I didn’t want nudie or music guy to get my domain.

Once I got the domain, then it was time to try some bloggin’. I really like Textpattern so far! Wordpress rocks.

Neal Stephenson Fan Blog goes live!

Neal Stephenson Fan Blog went live November 13th, 2004 around 7:30 in the evening MST. Up until then the Neal Stephenson Fan Page created in early 2004 was located at neal.fautrever.com and served in static html with some images that I didn’t necessarily have permission to use.

This new weblog is a lot nicer since it’s published through Wordpress, and served as PHP templates that the blog’s authors can fill with whatever content they wish. It’s easier to update and since it needed to be moved to the new nealfanpage domain, a few design changes were thrown in as well.

For example, I deleted the images partly since they were borrowed anyway and also because they didn’t really serve much purpose on the site. My mantra for images on web sites has always been: “use only images that are relevent to the web site and it’s purpose.”

Soon I’ll be posting real entries about Neal Stephenson and his work, so stay tuned.
